Green Garden Green

This is our 2nd year of gardening. It is so fun. Joe is the ultimate patient gardener. I just like to reap the benefits and make suggestions. He came up with this fantastic idea to keep critters and such out of our garden. Last year the deer ate our lettuce all the time and the raccoons at all of our corn and melons. So he came up with this plan of using flexible PVC pipe and deer netting. I did not like the idea of white poles in my yard so it was my idea to spray paint them green. Looks much better don't ya think. It is a little obnoxious but when you work hard on your garden you do what you an to keep the critters out. We went a little low on the peas and tomatoes and will go with higher arches for those next year. It was our first year to grow potatoes and what fun it was to dig for those. Don't they look yummy! I have a ton of tomatoes and am getting ready to make some salsa!

We became composters and recyclers last year. I know, ridiculous that we did not recycle until then. Now I am crazy about it. I love to recycle. Composting has been awesome!! We did not have to add any soil to our beds this year because we filled it with our compost. Our garden was so happy to have those nutrients and vitamins. It makes us feel like we aren't wasting as well. Joe drilled two trash cans with holes so that the moisture can drain and so that air can get in. When one is full we don't add to that one anymore and just mix it until it turns to beautiful soil. Then we rotate again. We feel so green!
